Gum Grafting & Soft Tissue Grafts in Murfreesboro, TN
Soft tissue grafting for gum recession
Gum grafting (also called soft tissue or gingival grafting) rebuilds protective gum around exposed roots so teeth stay comfortable, healthy, and attractive—here in Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee.
What is gum grafting? It is periodontal plastic surgery that covers exposed roots or thickens thin gum tissue. Recession may come from periodontal disease, aggressive brushing, grinding, or orthodontic history. Drs. Steven Daniel, Joanne Gaydos-Daniel, and Sang Hun “David” Kim evaluate which soft tissue approach fits your smile.
Connective tissue / gingival grafts
Uses tissue from your palate or a tissue bank to cover roots and restore a natural gumline—often with no second surgical site when donor tissue is chosen.
Pedicle / repositioned flaps
When neighboring gum is healthy, tissue can be moved to cover a localized recession defect.
Why it matters
Reduces sensitivity and decay risk on exposed roots, improves esthetics, and helps protect bone that supports the tooth.
Gum grafting FAQs
Is soft tissue grafting the same as a gingival graft?
Yes—patients and dentists use several names (gum graft, soft tissue graft, gingival graft, connective tissue graft). Your consultation clarifies which technique is recommended.
Do you always take tissue from my palate?
Not always. Many grafts use safe tissue-bank material so we can avoid a second surgical site. Severe defects sometimes favor your own tissue—we’ll explain both.
How soon can I return to work?
Most patients return to normal activities the next day, with written diet and cleaning instructions to protect the graft.
Can grafting help before or with implants?
Thick, healthy soft tissue improves comfort and long-term implant health. If implants are planned, Drs. Gaydos-Daniel or Kim coordinate soft tissue needs with implant care.
