Osseous Surgery in Murfreesboro, TN

“Why are my gums bleeding?”

That is a question we often hear from patients. Bleeding gums could be a sign of gum disease. Dr. Steven Daniel and Dr. Gaydos-Daniel offer gentle and effective gum disease treatment in Murfreesboro, TN.

If bacterial plaque has infected the gums and the infection spreads down into the bones of the jaw surgery may be required to eliminate the infection and repair the damage caused by the infection.

The Procedure

Drs. Daniel and Gaydos-Daniel will numb the area that needs treatment with a local anesthetic.
A small incision is made in the gum line and the tissue is pulled back to expose the bone and give access to the affected area.

The infected tissue is removed and the roots of the teeth carefully cleaned. Sometimes a simple resurfacing of the jaw bone is sufficient to repair the damage caused by the infection. In more severe areas techniques to rebuild the lost bone and gum tissue (please see "Guided Tissue Regeneration") are used. Often these techniques are combined to gain the best result. The goal is to eliminate the infection, repair the damage as best as is possible, and create a situation that can be maintained in health with daily care by the patient and regular care from your periodontist and dentist.

After the Procedure

There may be some discomfort for a day or so after the procedure. The doctors will prescribe appropriate medication to keep you comfortable. Most of our patients return to work the next day.
