Bone Grafting in Murfreesboro, TN

When a tooth is lost the jaw bone becomes vulnerable to deterioration. The natural tooth roots are no longer in place to keep the bone stimulated and vital.

Dental implants mimic tooth roots, stimulating the bone to keep it strong and healthy. If an implant is to function well and last for many years it must be placed in sufficient bone and in the proper position to function with the teeth. Patients who want to have teeth replaced with dental implants but lack sufficient bone in the proper position can still be treated. The lost bone can be recreated, in sufficient amounts and in the proper position, using bone reconstruction techniques.

The Bone Reconstruction Technique

1. The procedure is performed in our office. Local anesthesia is always used to ensure patient comfort. Sedation is also available for the relief of anxiety.

2. The area to be reconstructed is exposed and carefully cleaned to remove any possible infection.

3. Bone grafting material (we use safe and well-tested donor bone. This means we do not have to make a second surgical site to use your bone) is prepared and put in place.

4. The graft is combine with concentrated growth factor (CGF). This is material, spun down and separated from your own blood in a centrifuge, enhances and speeds the production of new bone and the healing of the soft tissue covering the graft.

5. The graft is covered with a protective membrane to keep it in place and minimize any movement of the graft during healing.

6. Stitches are carefully placed to close the site and cover the membrane and graft.

7. The patient is seen for regular, short visits for a few weeks to ensure good healing.

8. In 4-6 months the site can be evaluated by X-rays to see if it is ready for the dental implants to be placed.
